Kumu Nohea

Kumu Noheamaikalani is a credentialed educator whose work bridges academic learning with the cultural traditions of hula. Based in Southern California, she brings decades of experience in both education and hula.

In July 2025, she completed her ʻūniki rites on Oʻahu and was entrusted with the titles of Kumu Hula, Kumu Naʻauao, and Alakaʻi Nui, accepting the kuleana to perpetuate the teachings of her hula moʻokūʻauhau (lineage) with integrity and aloha.

Her teaching emphasizes thoughtful progression, cultural understanding, and lifelong learning, helping students grow in skill, character, and appreciation for hula, Hawaiian culture, and the natural world. Inspired by a lifelong love of birds and the outdoors, she incorporates the study of nā manu (birds) to foster observation, connection, and environmental stewardship.

Through Ka Pā Hula Nā Manu Hoʻoheno Aloha (Hula Manu), Kumu Nohea honors the legacy of her teachers while guiding future generations through hula, music, culture, and aloha.

“I feel so strongly that deep and simple is far more essential than shallow and complex.”

I have always loved to sing but mostly kept it to myself. Thanks to the encouragement and support of my family and friends, I am able to share this joy of music with others.
